Women's Bursary

This bursary has been established to help support women to achieve their full potential who come from Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, and Luton. It aims to help improve women’s lives, while educating the entire community about the benefits to society when the potential of women is realised as well as addressing issues of inequality.

This fund is administered by BLCF on behalf of EVOLVE.



Members of EVOLVE and BLCF have set the following priorities* for the bursary fund;

  • Address issues of poverty
  • Promote training skills and employment
  • Address issues of inequalities, violence, and safety
  • Address issues around mental health
  • Provide opportunities to develop economic self-sufficiency and enhance prospects for the future

*We will ask those applying which priority area they feel they fit within.

Bursaries will support women who are on low-income to access training, skills and/or employment. A Bursary of up to £1,000 is available for women in Bedfordshire (including Luton).


If you are interested in applying for a bursary, please make sure you are you can answer yes to all the following:

  • aged 18 and over
  • on low income, in receipt of benefits, made redundant or loss of job due to covid
  • not receiving any other financial help
  • permanent resident of Bedford Borough, Central Beds or Luton
  • returning to work or planning a career change.
  • Not in formal education and have left such a minimum of 3 years ago
  • planning to start your own business within the next 6 months
  • are in contact with or a previous user of a local charity /community group who is known to BLCF (if not, please contact BLCF on 01525 306690)

Decisions will be made by a panel of EVOLVE members, who meet on a regular basis, and who best understand their local area and the change they want to see.
